Wedding Music The love we give away is the only love we keep.

Elbert Hubbard

Welcome to my wedding music site. I started this site several years ago for a couple of friends who were getting married, and over the years it morphed into a compendium of music and readings. And soon I'll be adding features to enable you to find live bands in your area for hire.

Please feel free to use any of the MIDI files provided here on your own web sites. Just remember to download the file and save it to your own web server; stealing my bandwidth is not permitted.

The Wedding Mini-blog!

Love, love, love

Whether you're for it or against it, it looks like we've got it. Congratulations to all the happy couples; live long and prosper!

John Scalzi, a very talented humour writer and novelist, has written a bunch of notes for the newly married gays and lesbians of Massachusetts:

In some ways, your marriage will be like every other marriage out there. In other ways, of course, it won't. Those of us who are married now will certainly offer you advice, whether you ask for it or not. But there are some things where you'll be the first married people to experience them. In some ways, those of us who are married now will be glad we don't have to go through them. In other ways, we're deeply envious.

(Comments, as always, are enabled but anything inflammatory from either side of the issue will be removed. Remember, this site is about love.)

"Storybook Love" guitar tab

Someone emailed me asking for assistance in finding sheet music for "Storybook Love" from The Princess Bride, and though I couldn't find the sheet music (it's out of print), I was able to find a guitar tab online. A link has been added to the Contemporary page.

It's ok to love your pet, just don't love your pet...

I hope this is a joke, but these days you can never be sure.

Ugly Wedding Dresses

Everybody mocks ugly bridesmaid dresses, but what about ugly wedding dresses? Also, pictures of Japanese bridal excess.

More Unique (and Expensive) Wedding Sweets

While googling for images of Lucky Charms marshmallow bits (I haven't found any... anyone know where I can get some?) I ran into a site with some pretty extreme candy. You can buy "baby" pearls, pearl dust, pearl lollipops, and "Gold Lix" lollipops (which have an edible sliver of gold leaf in them).

IndieBride

Just discovered a great little 'zine, IndieBride. It features great articles such as Why I popped the question and How to call off your wedding. Includes active forums, too.

The New Diamond Age

Way back in 1982, The Atlantic ran an in-depth article about the true value of diamonds, that may have made some people rethink their choice of engagement ring. (Me, I'd prefer a star sapphire.) Now Wired has even more food for thought: synthetic diamonds are soon going to be gem-quality, easy to mass-produce, and even indistinguishable from the real thing.

(In addition, scientists have succeeded in using boron to give the synthetically grown diamond a negative charge, making diamond semiconductors possible. Eventually computer chips will be made from them, since they'll be able to withstand temperatures that would reduce silicon chips to liquid.)

So why not forgo the diamond and get a custom made ring (or other piece of jewelry) with meaning for you both? You can find all sorts of information on other precious stones, along with their history and traditional meaning, at Gem by Gem.

A Match Made in Heaven

Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko, currently stationed aboard the International Space Station, and his sweetheart Ekaterina Dmitriev are making plans to wed... while he's still 240 miles overhead in Earth orbit, in the first ever wedding from space. (The bride has lived in Houston, Texas most of her life, and, fortunately for the happy couple, Texas not only allows marriage licenses to be issued when one of the parties is not physically present, but also allows marriages by proxy.)

The wedding is scheduled for August 10th; no word yet on whether Malenchenko's crewmate, astronaut Ed Lu, will serve as best man.

New addition(s)

Today I added Beautiful as U, an All 4 One song suggested by JHaCe (cool site, JHaCe!), and had just added You're the Inspiration (a Peter Cetera/Chicago song), suggested by a lady named Sarah, when I realized I already had it up. Thanks, though!

I'm also slowly adding to the list of romantic (or otherwise) songs that feature names in them. I'm sure the list is by no means complete, so if anyone has ever annoyed you by singing a song with your name in it (or, if you've done the annoying) please write in and tell me about it.
